KSH, Kohala win BIIF openers

Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i and Kea‘au girls basketball opened their Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) seasons Wednesday night at Kea‘au High School. The Warriors handled business, routing the Cougars 65-9.

Keanu Huihui led with a game-high 27 points, while KSH teammate Maela Honma finished right behind her with 26.

Kea‘au started the year 0-1 overall, while the Warriors moved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the BIIF.

KSH next hosts Christian Liberty Academy at 6 p.m. Monday, while the Cougars play 7 p.m. that same day against Ka‘u at home.

Cowgirls win opener

Kohala girls basketball opened its season with a 50-13 rout over Pahoa on Wednesday night in Kapaau. The Cowgirls moved to 1-0 while the Daggers start 0-1.

Kohala will next play Waiakea at 6:30 p.m. today on the road. Pahoa next faces Hawaii Prep at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Waimea.
